چکیده

RF power amplifiers in mobile WiMAX transceivers operate in an inherently nonlinear manner. It is possible to amplify the signal in the linear region, and avoid distortion, using output power back-off; however, this approach may suffer significant reduction in efficiency and power output. This paper investigates the use of Doherty techniques instead of back-off, to simultaneously achieve good efficiency and acceptable linearity. A 3.5 GHz Doherty RFPA has been designed and optimized using a large signal model simulation of the active device, and performance analysis under different drive levels. However, the Doherty EVM is generally poor for mobile WiMAX. Linearity may be improved by further digital pre-distortion, and a simple predistortion method using forward and reverse AM-AM and AM-PM modeling. Measurements on the realized amplifier show that this approach satisfies the EVM requirements for WiMAX base stations. It exhibits a PAE over 60%, and increases the maximum linear output power to 43 dBm, whilst improving the EVM.

Modified Doherty Power Amplifier for Wider Band

Wireless communication system are developing rapidly, due to which new standards like WIMAX and 4G Long Term Evaluating(LTE) with a purpose of achieving high data rate result in high end applications such as high speed internet, video conferences and broadband width. These applications require mobile base stations at the transmitter as well as at receiver (T/R) to support features like multiple...

Power consumption in wireless access networks

The power consumption of wireless access networks will become an important issue in the coming years. In this paper the power consumption of base stations for mobile WiMAX, fixed WiMAX and UMTS is modelled. This power consumption is evaluated in relation to the coverage. For a physical bit rate of 2 Mbps, a power consumption of approximately 5600 W and a range of 1 km is obtained with UMTS. Fix...

Cross-layer mobile WiMAX MAC designs for the H.264/AVC scalable video coding

To effectively provide the QoS of streaming services in mobile WiMAX systems, this paper proposes a cross-layer design between the streaming server and mobile WiMAX base stations. We will show that for each user the implementation of multiple connections with feedback information of the available transmission bandwidth is critical for supporting H.264/AVC-based scalable video coding in which th...
